This talk was preceded by the Guided Meditation: Koan Practiceand “The Repeated Question” exercise on the above koan. The exercise was not taped for participants’ privacy. It is recommended for you to try the exercise on your own. The following talk and discussion will address how the purpose of both the meditation and the exercise is to create a fuller experience of koan practice.

Yunyan said, “You should know there’s one who isn’t busy.”
Daowu said, “If so, then there’s a second moon.”
Yunyan held up the broom and said, “Which moon is this?”
